Hertz Looking to Make Entrance into Car Sharing Market

Hertz, the rental car giant, has been eyeing the possibility of entering into the car sharing market. This is what is considered the rental-by-the-hour market and the car rental company has announced that it plans to take this huge step later this year. Rich Broome, the senior vice president for corporate affairs hasnt revealed exactly how this is going to be carried out. He did, however, indicate that the program is going to roll out in a number of stores within larger U.S. cities. If the test goes well, then other large cities such as Boston would be included in the second round.

Broome has stated that many individuals have a misconception that Hertz is only located in airports. However, there are car rental locations all over the united states that are not a part of airports. There are approximately 1,600 to be exact. Broome has further stated that the program will be rolled out in full if the trials do well. He feels that once the program is going full force, that the Hertz car rental company will have the necessary technology in place to provide customers with what they want, when they want it.

Furthermore, the benefits are very clear. Hertz has affordable car rental facilities in 147 countries, which adds up to 8,100 locations. What the program would do would allow a person to sign up for the car sharing service in one city, but be able to take advantage of the service in a completely different country.

It is expected that the implementation of this car sharing program will be great for the competition amongst rental car companies. It is also a positive thing for customers because they will have access to cars whenever they need them. If they need a car for just a few hours, then they can have it for just a few hours. This will be unlike any other program that anyone has ever experienced before in the rental car industry.

As for when this program will be released, that has not yet been determined.
