United Airlines Announces Daily Service From Washington To Doha, Qatar
CHICAGO, Dec. 8, 2011 - United Continental Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: UAL) today announced that United Airlines will launch daily service between its Washington/Dulles hub and Doha, Qatar, via Dubai, effective May 1, 2012, subject to government approval.
Doha will be the fourth city in the Gulf region that United serves from Washington/Dulles, in addition to Dubai, Kuwait City and Bahrain. The airline serves more destinations in the Gulf region and Middle East than any other U.S. carrier.
**This new service will improve travel options for our customers at both ends of the route,** said Andrew Buchanan, United*s director of international planning. **The Doha flights are timed to provide convenient connections to and from destinations across North America.**
United will operate the new service with Boeing 777 aircraft, with a total of 269 seats â€“ eight in United First, 40 in United Business and 221 in United Economy, including 104 Economy Plus seats with added legroom.
The flights will feature United*s International Premium Travel Experience offering customers in United First and United Business flat-bed seats, more than 150 hours of on-demand entertainment on 15.4-inch personal monitors and world-class cuisine with United*s exclusive menu options.
United Airlines First Boeing 787 Dreamliner Rolls Out Of FactoryUnited Airlines today announced that Boeing completed the final assembly of the airline*s first 787 Dreamliner Wednesday evening, finishing the first major step in the aircraft*s production. United will be the first North American carrier to take a 787 delivery, with plans to introduce the first of 50 Dreamliners into revenue service in 2012.
While in final assembly, the aircraft moved through four factory positions, including the final aircraft body join, landing gear installation, weight-on-wheels testing and installation of interior components and systems. Over the next several months, the aircraft will move to the next phase of completion, which includes final cabin configuration, installation of engines and painting.
Boeing will configure United*s first 787 with 36 seats in BusinessFirst, 63 seats in Economy Plus and 120 seats in Economy. The aircraft*s use of light-weight composites, together with more electric systems, modern engines and improved aerodynamic design, allows it to fly farther, faster and more efficiently. Customers will experience greater comfort with improved lighting, bigger windows, larger overhead bins, lower cabin altitude and enhanced ventilation systems, among other passenger-friendly features.
United Continental Holdings* subsidiaries Continental and United each ordered 25 Dreamliners. With expanded range capabilities, greater fuel efficiency and superior operating economics, the 787 will allow United to target new long-haul markets and replace older, less-efficient widebody aircraft.
Mileage Plus To Be Loyalty Program For The New United Airlines CHICAGO, June 29, 2011 - United Continental Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: UAL) today announced that Mileage Plus will be the loyalty program for its wholly owned subsidiaries United Airlines and Continental Airlines beginning in 2012. Moving to a single loyalty program is a significant milestone in the integration of the two airlines and will provide a more consistent travel experience for customers.
United will announce complete details of the Mileage Plus program â€“ including elite levels, qualifications and benefits, lifetime benefits, and other program developments that will take effect in 2012 â€“ in the coming months.
Continental*s OnePass loyalty program will end on Dec. 31, 2011. United will automatically enroll OnePass members in Mileage Plus and deposit into Mileage Plus award miles equal to their OnePass award miles balance. OnePass members* 2011 OnePass elite qualifying activity will be recognized fully in their 2012 Mileage Plus elite status. Chase OnePass credit cards, including OnePass Plus and Presidential Plus, will continue to earn miles and benefits in the Mileage Plus program.
In the meantime, United and Continental customers who are currently enrolled in both Mileage Plus and OnePass may link their accounts, enabling them to combine their miles and earn awards faster this year.
